THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING A SOUTHERN ILLINOIS STORM SHELTER. YOUR SHELTER IS CONSTRUCTED OF FIBERGLASS, STAINLESS STEEL, GALVANIZED AND COMPOSITE MATERIALS. OUR SHELTERS ARE PROUDLY MADE IN THE U.S.A. TO PROVIDE YOU WITH A LIFETIME OF PROTECTION AND DURABILITY.

PLEASE FILL OUT AND RETURN THE SURVEY/WARRANTY FORM WITHIN 15 DAYS OF INSTALL. THIS INFORMATION SHOULD BE KEPT ON FILE FOR YOUR WARRANTY.

BASIC FEATURES AND OPERATION

YOUR STORM SHELTER BY Southern Illinois Storm Shelters, Inc. (SISS) IS EQUIPPED WITH SEVERAL STANDARD FEATURES. YOUR SHELTER IS EQUIPPED WITH MANY OF THE SAME FEATURES AND BUILT WITH THE SAME QUALITY FROM THE SMALLER MODELS TO THE LARGEST MODEL.

LISTED BELOW ARE THE FEATURES AND THEIR USES.

1. SELF RISING ACTUATED DOOR- Firmly grab handle on side of door and lift straight up. When inside unit, pull door closed and pull lever towards you, the three point lock is in place and door is now secure.

2. FIBERGLASS STEPS- This method was chosen over the common ladder approach for easier entry.

4. CARPET- Enhances comfort and appearance of shelter.

5. NON-SKID- This non-slip surface is applied to the steps to provide you with a safe walking surface when entering and exiting the shelter.

6. AIR VENTS - Located in the upper part of the entryway, these vents allow for proper air ventilation and positive airflow.

7. SEATING– Molded in fiberglass seats will comfortably seat up the amount of adults stated in the model number.

8. Stainless Steel Hardware- Used so that shelter will maintain its structural integrity as well as appearance.

SEVERE WEATHER CAN OCCUR ANYWHERE AT ANYTIME, THERFORE SOUTHERN ILLINOIS STORM SHELTERS RECOMMENDS THAT EVERY FAMILY WHO OWNS A SHELTER SHOULD ROUTINELY PRACTICE A HOME ESCAPE AND SHELTER ENTRY PLAN, SO THAT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY WILL HAVE ABILTY TO SAFELY EXIT YOUR HOME AND SEEK PROTECTION IN YOUR SHELTER.

CARE AND USE

Now that your Southern Illinois Storm Shelter has been installed, we like to share a few tips for proper care.

Monthly Inspection- This is not a “requirement” but is very important to check you shelter to make sure everything is in proper order for when you need to use it. This will allow you to make sure everything is good to go in the event of an emergency.

YOUR SHELTER MAY SWEAT: Sweating may occur until the inside temperature balances with the temperature of the ground or if the conditions for sweating are favorable. The interior finish is easy to clean with a damp cloth. Cleaning the inside of the shelter with a damp cloth followed by a dry cloth will reduce condensation.

RUBBER DOOR SEAL: We recommend using a rubber spray protectant/treatment on the seal about twice a year. This can be purchased at any auto parts store. This will prevent the seal from dry rotting and cracking.

MOWING AND WEEDEATING: Use caution when mowing and trimming around your shelter. Both can cause serious damage if you should come in contact with the shelter.

*****WARNING*****

Never burn any type of fuel or oil lamp inside of shelter. Never burn anything inside of shelter that might give off toxic fumes. Never store

any type of hazardous material inside of shelter. Hazardous substances are not allowed in shelter.

Never drive a vehicle or heavy equipment closer than 48 inches to the shelter after it has been installed. This will prevent any unnecessary damage and will not be covered under the warranty if damaged due to driving heavy equipment or vehicle over the area.

Limited Lifetime Storm Shelter Warranty

Southern Illinois Storm Shelters, Inc. (hereafter referred to as S.I.S.S.) warrants to the ORIGINAL RESIDENTIAL PURCHASER, this underground storm shelter, excluding all equipment and accessories not manufactured by SISS to be free from defects and workmanship. This warranty applies to the shelter purchased new by the ORIGINAL RESIDENTIAL CUSTOMER and installed at the ORIGINAL RESIDENTIAL INSTALLATION SITE. Warranty may not be transferred to any other purchaser or location. This warranty is effective for a period of a Lifetime from the date of original purchase. Within this period, the liability of SISS under this warranty shall be limited to repair or replacement of any defective work or material. Repair or replacement shall be performed by SISS or at the option of SISS by an authorized SISS dealer within a reasonable period of time. No less than thirty (30) days but no more than (180) days.

Transportation cost is the responsibility of the ORIGINAL RESIDENTIAL PURCHASER. All repair or replacement costs if not installed by an authorized (SISS) dealer are the sole responsibility of the ORIGINAL RESIDENTIAL PURCHASER. All repairs or replacements must be approved by SISS factory personnel. SISS shall be liable for no other damages or losses. Items left inside of the shelter are the sole responsibility of the homeowner. Warranty is void if Southern Illinois Storm Shelters Inc. has not received full and complete payment for any products it manufactures.

THIS LIMITED WARRANTY DOES NOT APPLY TO DEFECTS CAUSED BY:

Accident, abuse, misuse, or negligence.
Any addition to structure or any other structure members.
Damage caused by natural disasters or natural occurrences, such as earthquakes, tornados, hurricanes, wind damage, etc.

THIS LIMITED WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER:

Normal maintenance services
Exterior paint damage
Cosmetic flaws; mold marks, discoloration; gelcoat maintenance, fading, or chalking.
Carpet, Non-Skid, Gas Struts, Rubber Seal, Hinges, Door Latches or other outside purchased items not manufactured by SISS
Installation of shelter by means other than specified by SISS.
Modification of the shelter.
Damage caused by improper installation or setup.
Any shelter installed under a foundation (shall be limited to repair only or replacement outside of foundation only)
Installation of shelter by someone other than an authorized SISS dealer.
Warranty terminates if shelter is relocated from its original installation.
Leaking through the vent caps due to standing water. Vent caps are not waterproof, it is the customers responsibility to keep good run off or drainage away from the shelter vents.

A claim made under this warranty must be made by notifying SISS in writing.

All claims must include in writing a detailed description of the problem, name, address, telephone number of person making the claim and must also include the model number of the shelter. (Located on the cover of your owner’s manual.)

No agent, dealer, salesman or other person is authorized to change or modify this express warranty, any implied warranty, or the terms thereof, and any such changes will not be recognized by or binding upon SISS. This warranty is EXCLUSIVE and there are no express warranties beyond those set forth in the warranty. TO THE EXTENT ALLOWED BY LAW, THE DURATION OF ANY WARRANTY IMPLIED BY LAW, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OR MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, APPLICABLE TO ANY SHELTER IS LIMITED TO THE DURATION OF THE EXPRESS LIMITED STORM SHELTER WARRANTY.

SISS MAXIMUM LIABILTY, UNDER THIS WARRANTY, IN NEGLIGENCE OR OTHERWISE, IS LIMITED TO THE ORIGINAL PURCHASE PRICE OF THE STORM SHELTER. SISS IS NOT LIABLE FOR ANY CONSIQUENTIAL, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, OR SPECIAL DAMAGES OF ANY NATURE ARISING FROM THE PURCHASE OR USE OF A SHELTER. NO CLAIM IN THE FORM OF A LAWSUIT OR OTHERWISE, WHICH ARISES OUT OF THE PURCHASE OR USE OF THIS SHELTER, MAY BE BROUGHT MORE THAN (180) DAYS AFTER THE DEFECT WHICH FORMS FOR THE BASIS FOR THE CLAIM HAS BEEN OR SHOULD HAVE BEEN DISCOVERED.

Should the need ever arise to repair or replace your storm shelter, please follow the instructions listed in this manual. The manufacturer has up to 180 days of the written description to repair or replace the shelter. If it is discovered the problem is due to something other than a warranty issue, please be advised that fees and charges apply for materials, mileage and/or labor, etc. if it is not a warranty problem.

We are proud to stand behind our limited lifetime warranty. We will do our best to fix the shelter in the ground. In the unlikely event that a shelter would have to be replaced, be advised that at the discretion of the manufacturer, shelters may be replaced with a factory reconditioned replacement, with the continuation of a limited lifetime warranty.

Things that may be needed/required at the home for the manufacturer or authorized dealer to do the repair/replacement:

Homeowner must provide fresh water hose and 110 volts/15 amp minimum power supply if necessary, for warranty work (for use of small vacuum, small tool usage, etc.)
